On the issues

Property tax system modernization: Siddique said he plans to release a turnaround roadmap to overhaul the county's Integrated Property Tax System. He said the initiative would address software fragmentation and system delays between the offices of the assessor, clerk and treasurer. Siddique said those problems have frozen $216 million in property tax distributions to local school districts and stalled $56 million in delayed refund checks owed to 25,000 property owners, according to his platform page.

Property tax relief for seniors: Siddique said he proposes a property tax exemption for senior citizens who have lived in the same single-family home for at least 35 years. He said those long-term residents have fulfilled their financial obligations to the community and deserve tax relief and housing security.

Education: Siddique said he proposes integrating financial literacy and mental health education into school curricula from eighth grade through high school. He said the goal is to ensure students are prepared to navigate the costs of living and achieve long-term financial independence.

Workforce development and AI: Siddique said he would introduce a training framework to help workers adapt to technological changes and address concerns about artificial intelligence and job loss. He said he would promote on-the-job training and reskilling opportunities and reach out to businesses across Cook County to support the effort.

Cross-cultural communication: Siddique said he would introduce cross-cultural communication as part of county government, noting more than 100 languages are spoken in Cook County. He said the initiative would bridge diverse perspectives and build trust between communities and local officials.
