The 5-1 ETHS flag football team hosts rival New Trier at Lazier Field on Wednesday, Sept. 9. Evanston Athletics designated the matchup as its Game of the Week.

The Wildkits carry momentum into the contest after a strong start to the 2026 season. Their only loss came Sept. 6 against defending state champion Maine South, 24-12, at a tripleheader. ETHS bounced back the same day with a 38-25 win over Lincoln-Way East to stay on track at 5-1, according to the Evanston Roundtable.

Senior KyNia Hunt has produced on both sides of the ball. In the Lincoln-Way East win, Hunt caught eight passes for 113 yards and a touchdown, returned an interception 55 yards for a score and added a second pick. She had three interceptions against Glenbrook North on Sept. 2, returning two for touchdowns.

Hunt's father is head coach Carlton Rosemond.

Sophomore quarterback Ava Bellis set three single-game ETHS records in the Lincoln-Way East game: 38 completions, 58 attempts and 388 passing yards, the Roundtable reported. Bellis also threw a career-high five touchdown passes in a 39-0 rout of Niles North on Sept. 4 at Lazier Field.

Rosemond said after the Sept. 6 doubleheader that Hunt is playing at an elite level. "I've known since her sophomore year that she was the best player in the state," he told the Roundtable. "Right now she's playing her best football and she's not coming off the field because her teammates know we need her."

The defense has held up despite losing senior pass rusher Camille Calixte to a torn ligament in her hand, according to Patch. Senior Nikki Dandelles, playing through a knee injury with a brace on her left leg, has stepped into a larger role. She recorded four sacks, including three consecutive in the fourth quarter, in a 19-13 win over Kenwood Academy on Aug. 28.

New Trier, based in Winnetka, visits Lazier Field as a North Shore rival. The Trevians' 2026 record was not available as of publication.

The Wildkits opened the season with four straight wins before the Maine South loss. Rosemond cautioned after the Sept. 4 shutout of Niles North that the early success was only a beginning, saying the team had not accomplished anything yet.

ETHS takes the field Sept. 9 at 5-1 with an IHSA state championship in its sights.
