Evanston Township High School student-athletes who want to play sports this fall need to register now, even if they played last year.

ETHS opened athletic registration for the 2026-27 school year on Friday, July 17, the district announced on its official X account. The requirement applies to every student who wants to participate in athletic teams and programs. No one carries over automatically from last year.

"All students must complete the sports registration process for the 2026-27 school year, including students who had previously registered," the school posted.

What families need to know

Students can register at sports.eths202.org/registration/register. The site also includes information on academic eligibility requirements, student-athlete forms, tryouts, and summer camps. No registration deadline has been announced publicly.

The ETHS athletics program offers more than 30 sports, including football, basketball, soccer, cross country, volleyball, swimming and diving, lacrosse, wrestling, and tennis.

Registration follows June ransomware attack

The announcement comes after a ransomware attack discovered Sunday, June 7 disrupted ETHS operations for weeks. The attack forced the school to close on Monday, June 8 and Tuesday, June 9, canceling summer school classes, sports camps, and all on-campus activities.

The breach knocked out phone systems, staff email, district Google accounts, and Home Access Center, the online portal families use to check grades and communicate with teachers. ETHS engaged external cybersecurity forensic experts and cooperated with the FBI as part of the investigation, according to Patch and ABC7 Chicago reporting at the time.

Reine Hanna, ETHS District 202 director of communications, told ABC7 Chicago on June 8 that the district's IT team had immediately activated emergency response procedures. "This is the first time the district has experienced a situation like this," Hanna said in that interview, adding that the district was leaning on experts who had navigated similar incidents at other institutions.

On Wednesday, July 16, Superintendent Dr. Marcus Campbell published a statement addressing the district's continued recovery from the June incident and what students and families can expect in the fall. The full details of that statement have not been publicly disclosed beyond its title.
