A proposed 30-unit apartment building at 1103–05 Emerson Street hit another snag Monday, June 22, when the Evanston City Council delayed its final vote for a second time. The decision is now scheduled for Monday, July 13.
Ald. Bobby Burns, 5th Ward, introduced last-minute amendments that prompted the postponement. The council first tabled the Emerson Street vote on May 27, drawing frustration from Ald. Shawn Iles, 3rd Ward, who said at the time: "Yet another delay .... this is really why we have a housing crisis."
Also at the June 22 meeting, the council appointed four new trustees to the Evanston Public Library Board, filling vacancies after five board members departed. Three trustees' terms had expired and two others resigned, with the outgoing members publicly criticizing the city, as Evanston Now reported on Wednesday, June 17. The library board has been without a permanent executive director and approved a request for proposal to hire a search firm in late May.
The council has not yet released the names of the appointees in its official minutes.
The next scheduled council vote on the Emerson Street project is July 13.
