Architecture and travel writer Kristine Hansen will discuss and sign copies of her new book, Frank Lloyd Wright's Illinois, at Bookends & Beginnings on Thursday, Sept. 24.

The free event begins at 6 p.m. at the bookstore's location at 1620 Orrington Ave. in downtown Evanston. Doors and a minibar open at 5:30 p.m. The store is one block east of the Davis Street Metra and CTA stops.

Hansen's book, published July 7 by Globe Pequot, explores about 40 Frank Lloyd Wright-designed sites within four hours of Chicago. The 208-page guide ($24.95) is organized by community and covers buildings constructed between 1889 and 1959.

The Evanston connection runs deeper than the venue. According to the event listing, Evanston is home to the Oscar Johnson House and other sites shaped by the Prairie School of design. North Shore buildings covered in the book include the Ward Willits House and Mary M.W. Adams House in Highland Park, the Sherman Booth House in Glencoe, and the Lewis E. Burleigh House in Wilmette.

Illinois holds a quarter of Wright's remaining buildings worldwide, according to WUWM. In a July 2 interview with the Milwaukee NPR station, Hansen described the state's range of Wright work: "In Illinois we have everything from the early Prairie-style houses up until the Usonians, which are ranch-level, designed and built between the 1930s and 1950s."

Hansen has written about Wright's architecture for Architectural Digest, Dwell, Condé Nast Traveler and Midwest Living Magazine. She also authored Frank Lloyd Wright's Wisconsin for the same publisher.
