Stratton won the Democratic primary on March 17, 2026, with 40.4% of the vote, or 507,689 votes, defeating U.S. Representatives Raja Krishnamoorthi and Robin Kelly, among others, as The 19th first reported. Experience and public service

Stratton has served as lieutenant governor since 2019. Before that, she represented District 5 in the Illinois House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019.

She served as executive director of the Cook County Justice Advisory Council from 2011 to 2014. She directed the Center for Public Safety and Justice at the University of Illinois at Chicago from 2015 to 2017. She founded JDS Mediation Services in 1997.
