Marcus Brown will be back on the mic.

The DJ and MC from D.I.M.E. (Dance is My Everything) returns to host the annual 'Kits, 'Cats and Kids Block Party on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Lazier Field on the Evanston Township High School campus, 2285 Church St. The free event runs from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. and is open to everyone.

The block party, which falls about two weeks into the new school year, brings together Northwestern University, ETHS, Evanston/Skokie School District 65 and the City of Evanston for an evening of music, food and activities aimed at welcoming students and families back to school.

What to expect

Both the Northwestern University Marching Band and the ETHS Marching Band are scheduled to perform on the field, along with the ETHS Choir. A pep rally will feature speeches from city and school district leaders, according to Northwestern Athletics, which co-sponsors the event.

For kids, the evening includes lawn games, inflatables, arts and crafts, and activity booths, all free.

Food

Free refreshments from C&W Market will be available while supplies last. Local vendors selling food at the event include La Cocinita, Soul & Smoke, MLS Hot Dogs, Rainbow Cone and Cookies with Flavor. Patch also lists Pop Shop Soda Bar among the vendors.
