General public season ticket sales for Northwestern football's inaugural season at the new Ryan Field begin Tuesday, August 4, the program confirmed through a countdown campaign that launched Wednesday, July 29.
The official Northwestern Football account posted Thursday, July 30, that public sales open in five days, locking in the August 4 date the Evanston Wire reported July 29 was expected. The program is framing the launch around turning "The Best Stadium in Football into the best home-field advantage in football."
Season ticket holders from 2023–2025 already received priority seat selection. Tuesday's sale marks the first opportunity for everyone else, according to Northwestern Athletics.
The stakes are real.
The $875 million, 35,000-seat stadium at 1501 Central Street opens Friday, October 2, against Penn State in a nationally televised game on FOX. That date marks exactly 100 years since the original Northwestern Stadium hosted its first football game in 1926. The venue is 12,000 seats smaller than the old Ryan Field, but built for closeness: the most distant seat sits just 135 feet from the field, compared to 253 feet at Michigan Stadium. A canopy covers all spectator seats while leaving the playing surface open-air, amplifying crowd noise as a competitive advantage, according to Sports Illustrated.
"It'll be an experience for our fans and our student-athletes that is unparalleled in college football," Head Coach David Braun said on the Spiegs and Holmes radio show on July 24.
More than 1,000 construction workers were on site daily as of late July to finish the stadium in time for its debut, the Chicago Tribune reported. The Ryan family's $480 million donation in 2021 anchored the privately funded project.
The five Ryan Field home games in 2026: Penn State on Friday, October 2; Ball State on Saturday, October 10 (Homecoming); Rutgers on Saturday, October 24 (Family Weekend); Iowa on Saturday, November 7; and Illinois on Saturday, November 28. Northwestern plays its first two home games at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium — South Dakota State on Saturday, September 5, and Colorado on Saturday, September 19.
Season ticket pricing has not been publicly announced. Public sales open Tuesday through the New Ryan Field website.
