Evanston police arrested a 27-year-old man at Robert Crown Community Center on Thursday, Sept. 17, after he allegedly returned to the building multiple times despite being told to stay away.

Kobe M. Wilson of Evanston faces two Class A misdemeanor counts of criminal trespass to state-supported land, according to Evanston Now, which first reported the arrest. Evanston Police Department (EPD) Commander Chelsea Brown announced the charges in a statement Thursday evening.

The incidents began Friday, Sept. 4, when someone allegedly approached a juvenile girl inside Robert Crown and offered her candy and cannabis, according to a Patch report. A parent confronted the man about his behavior, and staff removed him from the facility. Police responded the following day and used a photograph provided by staff to identify Wilson as the suspect.

Wilson returned to Robert Crown on Thursday, Sept. 10, police said. Officers responded and formally told him he was not allowed on the property.

He came back again on Wednesday, Sept. 16. Police responded but Wilson left before they arrived. Investigators reviewed facility video that showed a man entering the building, sitting near a juvenile and starting a conversation, Brown said in her statement. A second juvenile joined them. After staff approached, the man and the juveniles left the area together.

Staff contacted police again on Thursday, Sept. 17, after Wilson returned once more. Officers found him inside the building at about 10:48 a.m. and took him into custody.

No injuries to any juveniles have been reported, police said.

Wilson was scheduled to appear before a judge at Skokie Courthouse on Friday, Sept. 18, for a bond hearing. Whether Wilson has retained an attorney or entered a plea was not available as of publication.
