Tony and Grammy winner Heather Headley will headline a Nov. 1 benefit concert at Northwestern University's Galvin Recital Hall supporting affordable housing for people with disabilities.

The concert, billed as "Celebration 2026: An Evening with Heather Headley," is the annual fundraiser for Over the Rainbow Association, an Evanston-based nonprofit that has spent more than 50 years providing accessible housing and services for adults with physical disabilities. The show begins at 4 p.m., according to Patch, followed by a reception with drinks and hors d'oeuvres.

Headley attended Northwestern from 1993 to 1996, studying communications and musical theater, before leaving at the end of her junior year to join the Broadway-bound musical "Ragtime." Her husband, Brian Musso, also attended the university.

The couple lives in Chicago.

Headley originated the role of Nala in the original Broadway cast of "The Lion King." She went on to win the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for the title role in "Aida" and the 2010 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Gospel Album for "Audience of One." She stars on the Netflix series "Sweet Magnolias."

Over the Rainbow operates 14 apartment communities across northern Illinois, serving more than 350 adults. Its main campus sits at 2040 Brown Ave. in Evanston. The nonprofit connects residents with benefits, transportation, mental health resources and social programs. Services include art therapy, wheelchair yoga and cooking classes.

Michael Pearce, a resident who has lived at Over the Rainbow for 10 years after a car accident at age 18, described what the community means to him in a July Evanston Now profile: "I feel like this building can propel you into whatever you want to do."
