Northwestern fencing swept all three weapon titles at the Remenyik ROC/RJCC, the program's season-opening tournament held Sunday, Sept. 27, and Monday, Sept. 28, at Ryan Fieldhouse in Evanston.

The Wildcats placed 19 fencers on the podium over two days, according to Northwestern Athletics. Three different fencers claimed individual titles in foil, epee and sabre.

Yukari Takamizawa, a member of the Japanese national fencing team who made back-to-back NCAA Championship appearances, won the Division I Women's Foil. She went 6-0 in pool bouts and won five straight in direct elimination. Teammates Bridgette Ouyang finished third and Karina Vasile fifth, giving Northwestern three of the top five spots.

In a March profile by North by Northwestern, teammate Juliana Hung described Takamizawa's style: "She's super dynamic and unpredictable. She's good at explosive attacks, pushing you all the way down the strip."

Ana Beckman won the Division I Women's Epee title in her first competition as a Wildcat. Seeded sixth entering direct elimination, Beckman knocked off a pair of higher-seeded opponents to claim the crown. She added a runner-up finish in the Junior Women's Epee.

Northwestern claimed the top three spots in epee. Angelica Xiong placed second, Hailin Chen third and Michaela Joyce fifth.

Seeded seventh in Division I Women's Sabre, Jaslene Lim won five pool bouts and rattled off five straight direct-elimination victories to take the title. Second Team All-American Elaine Lu, who placed seventh at the 2026 NCAA Championships in March, finished third. Sophia Schiminovich took fifth and Nisha Hild sixth.

The program enters the season after going 33-4 in dual meets last year, according to InsideNU. Northwestern placed sixth at the 2026 NCAA Championships with 54 points. That tournament marked the first time since 1989 the Wildcats could compete for a national title, after the NCAA reverted to separate gender championships.

Northwestern competes next at USA Fencing's October North American Cup in Orlando, Fla., scheduled for Oct. 9-12.
