Evanston/Skokie School District 65 has hired Eric Miller, a Glenview school finance administrator and Evanston Township High School graduate, as its next chief financial officer starting Wednesday, July 1.

The board voted unanimously at its Monday, June 22 meeting to appoint Miller, who replaces outgoing CFO Tamara Mitchell. Mitchell announced her resignation in February; her last day is Tuesday, June 30.

Miller spent more than a decade as assistant superintendent for business services at Glenview Public School District 34, holding the role from 2015 until leaving in April, according to the Chicago Tribune. He takes over D65's finances as the district has cut nearly $20 million and 130 full-time positions through its Structural Deficit Reduction Plan since revealing a $7.5 million deficit in the 2022-23 fiscal year.

Miller is one of two new leaders stepping in on July 1. Former ETHS Superintendent Dr. Eric Witherspoon will serve as interim superintendent through Wednesday, December 31, replacing Superintendent Angel Turner, whose mutual separation agreement the board also approved at the June 22 meeting. The board plans to hire a search firm for a permanent superintendent.

Board member Mya Wilkins, speaking about Turner's departure at the same meeting, said: "This is an unfortunate situation we've gotten ourselves into, and as a Board, I believe that voting 'yes' on this helps move us forward."

Mitchell was among several cabinet-level administrators departing at the end of the 2025-26 school year, including Assistant Superintendent Katie Speth and Director of Schools Management Charmekia McCoy.

District 65 serves roughly 5,800 students in kindergarten through eighth grade across Evanston and a portion of Skokie.
