Lizzie Ferrazza spent four years as Willie the Wildcat, and Northwestern revealed her identity the day after she graduated.

The university announced on its official X account Monday, June 15, that Ferrazza, a 2026 graduate, had played Willie across athletics and campus appearances for her entire undergraduate career. The post came one day after Northwestern's 168th Commencement at the United Center on Sunday, June 14.

Keeping Willie's identity secret is a longstanding Northwestern tradition. All students in the role are required to stay anonymous while serving. The NU Spirit Squad holds tryouts each spring and fall, typically selecting two to four students at a time, and mascots dedicate at least 12 hours a week to practices, weightlifting sessions, and game-day appearances lasting three or more hours.

Ferrazza's four-year tenure, spanning fall 2022 through spring 2026, stands out. Former Willie performer Zoe Goodman (SESP '19) served three years in the role, according to North by Northwestern reporting.
