A new cocktail lounge and vinyl listening room is planned for 915 Chicago Ave. in southeast Evanston, a storefront its co-owner says fills a gap in the 3rd Ward's nightlife options.

Good's Parlor and Sound would bring a cocktail bar, outdoor patio, and a listening room focused on vinyl records to a space previously occupied by Ten Thousand Villages and, before that, the ORT Resale shop. Co-owners Aaron Bertucci and David Meihaus told Evanston Now they are targeting a spring 2027 opening, though building permits have not yet been submitted.

Bertucci, who grew up on the 900 block of Hinman Avenue, is a musician and DJ. Meihaus brings bar-industry experience as both a manager and owner. Bertucci said he sees the venue as a way to reinvest in the ward where he was raised.

"It's a big hole for the 3rd Ward, and as I've spoken to a lot of city officials, many speak about how the 3rd Ward loses people due to this, and that means that they're taking their money and their time, and they're going to other wards," Bertucci said.

The bar's concept centers on analog music and community participation. Bertucci told Evanston Now he envisions patrons buying, selling, donating, and sharing their own record collections. The venue also plans to host DJ events, listening sessions with artists, and dance classes.

The city's Liquor Control Review Board recommended approval of the bar's liquor license in June, as part of a batch of 10 new licenses that included four at Ryan Field. The City Council's final vote on the license is pending, with the board's recommendation forwarded for July consideration, according to Evanston Now. Building permits still need to be submitted and approved before construction can begin.

Good's Parlor and Sound is the second new late-night venue to advance through Evanston's licensing process in 2026. The City Council earlier this year unanimously approved Local Note Jazz Club at 1716 Sherman Ave. downtown, a 45-seat venue owned by Kurt Schauer.
